It’s been a long time coming, but now the new James Weidman website is officially up and running. What’s new is a music video page, and an interview page where you can view me sounding off on various topics. On the album page, not only can you check out my albums as a leader, but you can also see the other collaborations I’ve had with some of the iconic artists: Abbey Lincoln, Steve Coleman, and Joe Lovano, to name a few. There are also other noteworthy albums, recordings with brilliant musicians, some of whom you may not be as familiar with.
Speaking of albums, I have another important item to announce. In mid-June, my latest creation will drop! The album name is “Sonic Realities.” It is a piano trio offering that features the fantastic Harvie S on bass and the remarkable Alvester Garnett on drums. It will be available in all the usual places. More info will be posted this week. Stay tuned!
In the coming weeks, an education tab will be added on this site. For those of you who don’t know, since August 2021, I have been Assistant Professor of Jazz Piano and African American Studies at the University of Georgia. That was the year after the onset of the pandemic. Just like that, I transitioned from my “New York Attitude” existence to that of academia in Athens, GA. The students here are talented, and I am also thrilled to interact with such creatively minded faculty members. UGA’s heralded football Bulldogs have won the championship in the two years I have been here. I must have brought them good luck! Look out for the new education page, for I plan to post some of my activities that you might find of interest.
So, welcome to the launch of my spanking brand-new website. I hope you like what you see!
